I'm worried about his safety

Emergency

If someone is in immediate danger in Australia, call 000.

If you think he may hurt himself or someone else, do not leave the situation unsupported. Call 000 if there is immediate danger, or contact a crisis support service.

Warning signs may include

saying he does not want to be here
talking about death or suicide
giving things away
withdrawing completely
increased alcohol or drug use
sudden calm after intense distress
saying people would be better off without him
reckless behaviour
saying goodbye in unusual ways

What you can say

I'm really glad you told me.
I care about you and I want you to stay safe.
Are you thinking about hurting yourself?
Can we call someone together?
I'm going to stay with you while we get support.
You do not have to get through this alone.
I'm going to take this seriously because you matter.

What not to say

You're only saying this for attention.
Don't be dramatic.
Think about what this would do to me.
You promised you wouldn't do this.
Other people have it worse.
You would never actually do that.
